A 14-year-old Dutch girl, who was put under state supervision last year after planning to sail around the world by herself in a bid to become the youngest person to do so, will need to keep her dream on hold as an appeal for the supervision to be relieved was rejected by a Dutch court on Tuesday.
The court in the city of Arnhem said Laura Dekker and her father, who supports her ambition, “have a limited insight” into the risks. Ever since the court prohibited Laura to start her sailing adventure in August last year, the young girl has been through tough times.
She skipped class and even ran away to a Caribbean island, only to be recognized by someone after a few days and sent back to Holland, Dutch media report.
