Dallas Mavericks star forward Dirk Nowitzki tore a tendon on his left middle finger during the fourth quarter of Tuesday night’s game one loss to the Miami Heat. The injury occurred when Nowitzki went in to strip the ball from the Heat’s Chris Bosh.

During the post game press conference Nowitzki commented on the injury, “I thought I stripped him clean, then I kind of looked down and I couldn’t straighten my finger out anymore. So I tore a tendon in there.”

The injury is to his non-shooting hand and shouldn’t present too much of a problem for the rest of the series. “I guess it will be all right. I have to wear a splint probably the rest of the playoffs.”

Nowitzki had 27 points on the night and eight rebounds. After his injury, he shot 1-2 from the field, but 4-4 at the line.  He is not expected to miss any games during the remainder of the Finals.
