Dick Van Dyke disorder: The legendary actor canceled a public appearance because of “a yet-to be diagnosed neurological disorder.”
A representative for Van Dyke told Entertainment Tonight that the 87-year old won’t be able to attend an event on April 26 because of “fatigue and lack of sleep resulting from symptoms of a yet-to-be diagnosed neurological disorder.”
The event was at 92nd Street Y, a nonprofit community and cultural center on the Upper East Side that often features famous people sharing stories and experiences. Designer Vera Wang recently had a discussion there, as did Arrested Development actors David Cross and Michael Cera.
Dick Van Dyke, who is instantly recognizable by his bushy mustache, has appeared in a range of roles over four-plus decades of acting, with some producing and soundtrack work to a lesser extent. He is well-known for his own show, which ran from 1961 through 1966, and appeared in Mary Poppins (1964). He also starred in Diagnosis Murder, a TV series that ran for almost a decade starting in 1993.
Van Dyke is resting at his home in Malibu, CA, according to his representative, and has canceled other commitments requiring air travel, for the time being.
