Desire EYE Vs Oppo N3: Which Takes the Best Selfies? (Video)

The concept of selfies grew to such a deafening volume that the word was added to the Merriam-Webster dictionary. The concept of selfies grew to such a deafening volume that the word was added to the Merriam-Webster dictionary. It’s part of our everyday lexicon, and likely a big focal point of your smartphone experience. Have something to say? You probably use apps like Snapchat to document yourself saying it. Hiked to the top of a beautiful peak?

Take a selfie—it’s easy proof that you’re doing something cool and fun and—be honest—you want people to acknowledge you exist. You crave those Instagram likes.

So it’s no surprise to see companies making front-facing cameras better. Front-facing cameras used to be afterthoughts, put there to appease those hoping to FaceTime with a friend or family member.

But now the technology is reaching that point where the outputted quality is on a par with your regular camera. (Ok, not quite that good, but it’s getting there.) Devices like the HTC Desire EYE and Oppo N3 reflect this new trend, and there’s no going back.

The methods by which these two phones emphasis front-facing quality couldn’t be any different. In the Desire EYE, HTC managed to stuff a 13-megapixel camera both on front and back (seriously, look at how large that lens in in front).

The Oppo N3, meanwhile, has a single 16-megapixel camera that swivels, which means you can use it for normal landscape photos, or flip it around and take a selfie. It’s part voodoo magic and engineering brilliance, and perfect for your Snapchat obsession.

So the question arises: which phone is better served for your selfie addiction? That’s a topic Mark explores in the video above, talking the finer points of what the Desire EYE and N3 offer.

Usually we like to focus on all-out camera battles, but this one is a fun change of pace. The selfie craze is getting out of hand, and these phones are here to feed the movement. Ellen Degeneres probably already bought two of each.
