Looking to create a space that’s fresh, clean, and down to earth? Draw inspiration from the Midwest to create a bold and vibrant space that’s as warm and inviting as a summer’s day.

Midwestern style includes plenty of classic American vintage fare, reminiscent of days spent on the lake, and lazy summer afternoons buying soda at the corner store. To recreate this look, you'll want to look for vintage pieces that convey an old-fashioned American look, while opting for a neutral color pallet offset by bold, strong colors. Here’s how you can get the look in your home.

Décor: Vintage, Farmhouse, Americana

Midwestern inspired home décor incorporates plenty of natural pieces, such as unfinished wood and wicker, as well as antiques, vintage pieces, and rustic handmade art. Vintage signs, rotary telephones, antique clocks, and old-fashioned letterboxes would feel right at home in a Midwestern inspired layout. Also look for wrought iron sculptures, wooden boxes, and rustic lanterns. Anything that’s reminiscent of an old-fashioned farmhouse.

Style: Old-Fashioned Charm

Midwestern décor is welcoming, and full of subtle charm. Look for ways to make your home inviting, while incorporating plenty of details that convey an old-fashioned sense of hospitality. Little comforts are key. Include a pitcher of sunflowers, comfortable throws, plenty of old-fashioned pillows, or a wire basket filled with some classic books to create a space that’s comfortable, and inviting.

Colors: Combine Neutral and Bold

A Midwestern inspired color palette will contain plenty of inspiration from the great outdoors. To pull off this look, opt for a subdued backdrop and add splashes of strong, bold colors to brighten things up. Start with light neutral tones, such as beige, cream, or white and contrast with stronger colors –like shades of navy, rust reds, or deep browns.

Choose décor that’s rustic and charming –and opt for pieces that have plenty of personality. Look for ways to incorporate pieces that evoke childhood memories –and make your home warm and welcoming –the Midwestern way.
