The kitchen is the main hub of activity in most houses, and a main area of consideration for prospective homebuyers.
If you have a great kitchen, then some buyers will even be willing to overlook other aspects of the house that might not be quite up to par. This is one reason why this area in the home deserves special attention when you’re getting ready to sell. When staging your home, it’s important to ensure that your kitchen looks its best. Here are a few ideas to get you started.
Clean and Simplify
When it doubt –simplify! While it may sound basic, cleaning the kitchen thoroughly and removing all unnecessary clutter is a simple, yet effective improvement. Limit the number of items you have sitting out, and give yourself a blank slate to work with. A simplified kitchen will help to give potential buyers an idea of what can be done with the room, leaving it open to their imaginations. Don’t get caught up in the details –clean and simplify your kitchen before you do anything else!
Pay Special Attention to Lighting
Both practical and aesthetic, the right lighting can help a kitchen to look more open and inviting. Choose lighting features that provide optimal lighting, and ones that go well with the overall décor in the room. Take advantage of natural lighting, and opt for simple window treatments that allow the most light into the room.
Carefully Select Décor
Keep in mind that the goal of staging is to create a space that will help buyers to envision themselves living there. In many cases, simpler is better. A few carefully chosen elements will have much better results than a large assorted collection. Choose items that have universal appeal, and limit décor that’s too personal, or features that would only appeal to those with niche tastes.
