SAN ANTONIO—Shen Yun Performing Arts performed its second San Antonio performance to another sold-out audience Sunday evening at the Lila Cockrell Theatre.
“It’s fantastic, very dramatic. Never seen anything like it,” said Ms. Leann Douglas, who manages a design center in San Antonio.
“It’s different, it’s different in a good way,” she said of traditional Chinese dance. “Very different than anything I’ve seen before.”
New York-based Shen Yun performs classical Chinese dance and ethnic and folk dances from China’s many sub-ethnicities, using traditional art forms to revive 5,000 years of Chinese culture.
“The very last performance we just saw was incredible,” Ms. Douglas said.
The finale presented a scene in China today, bringing ancient Chinese principles into the present.
“I love the colorful costumes,” Ms. Douglas said. “They’re incredible.”
‘Fabulous, absolutely fabulous’
Shen Yun was more than a feast for the eyes for former culinary teacher Carolyn Montgomery and psychologist Charles Harrison.
“It touched the spirit and the soul,” Mr. Harrison said. “The dance, the beauty. I saw the commonality between all cultures, it was a real celebration of the world, not only of the China, but of the contribution that it makes with its dance, with its music, with its beauty, with its color, the costumes—it’s beautiful.”
“It’s beautiful to watch,” Ms. Montgomery said. “Absolutely wonderful, the way everything was very synchronized.”
Mr. Harrison said that in watching Shen Yun, he saw that the culture was “hardworking, peace loving, they tie to the earth, also very appreciative of beauty, and the spiritual above all else.”
“It’s very inspiring to see that the Chinese people are still very much in touch with their heritage and their roots—above all, with their spiritual. With peace,” Mr. Harrison said.
“Fabulous, absolutely fabulous,” Ms. Montgomery said.
