On Mar. 26, 2012 director James Cameron descended on, into the Mariana Trench, documenting it for his film “Deepsea Challenge 3D.” His dive is the second manned dive into the trench, the deepest place in the world’s oceans, but he holds the record for the deepest and the longest dive. “Deepsea Challenge 3D” opened in theaters Aug. 8, 2014.
