TC Energy is abandoning the Keystone XL pipeline, months after President Joe Biden suspended its construction permit. It marks the end of a 13-year battle between environmentalists and the energy sector. Environmental groups cheered on the decision to halt it. But the move marks a blow to Canada. The Canadian province Alberta spent over $1 billion on the project. Alberta’s premier Jason Kenney said in a statement, “We remain disappointed and frustrated with the circumstances surrounding the Keystone XL project, including the cancellation of the presidential permit for the pipeline’s border crossing.”

The world’s biggest meat processor, JBS, confirms it paid cyberattackers $11 million in ransom after an attack last week forced it to shut down. The CEO of JBS USA, Andre Nogueira, said, “This was a very difficult decision to make for our company and for me personally.” He said the payment was to protect their customers.
