David Miliband, brother of the new Labour leader, Ed, has decided not to pursue a job in the shadow cabinet.

David had until Wednesday morning, 29th September to decide whether to stay in front line politics as Shadow Chancellor or some other post.

“The last thing anyone needs is an Opposition where everything is seen and led through the lens of two brothers,” he said on a Telegraph video.

“The family is the most important thing. The Party has made a decision, we’ve got to now move forward with the right judgment,” he said

The next front runner for the post is Ed Balls who was government Schools Minister under Gordon Brown. However, his strong support of Mr Brown may stand against him.

Also, in his speech after the leadership race and in a recent BBC World At One interview, he has not come out as strongly against Alistair Darling’s budget plans as much as he did during the leadership campaign. Ed Miliband has said Mr Darling’s plans are only a starting point for deficit reduction.
