Danica McKellar, famous for playing Winnie on “The Wonder Years,” has said that her new baby Draco is “sweet” and that the childbirth was “really something,” according to interviews the actress and math book author had with celebrity media recently.
McKellar gave birth to her first child Draco in September and she describes him as “good-natured,” People magazine reported.
“He likes getting his diaper changed. He seems to really appreciate that!” McKellar told People magazine. “And he has a ravenous appetite. He eats every three hours and I’m exclusively breastfeeding. He’s just really sweet.”
McKellar also said in the same interview that her baby’s name, Draco, means “constellation” in Latin and was her composer husband Mike Verta’s idea.
“He’d heard the name and loved it,” McKellar told the magazine. “He said, ‘Once we’re gone, the constellation will keep looking out for him.’ It makes me cry every time I hear it. So of course that made it a winner! I love it. It’s a cool, strong name.”
McKellar also told Access Hollywood that her childbirth was completely natural, without drugs, and that it was a lesson in determination.
“36 hours of labor — it was really something,” she said on Access Hollywood Live. “But you know what? It was one of those challenges that I got to overcome. It’s one of those times that you tell yourself, ‘I don’t know if I can do this,’ because I didn’t know if I could it, and then you just push through, and believe in yourself.”
McKellar has a math degree from UCLA and writes math books for girls, including the recently published Hot X: Algebra Exposed! In the past year, she had a guest appearance on The Big Bang Theory.
