NEW YORK—Flash floods are expected on July 1 in New York, and Governor Andrew Cuomo has urged New Yorkers to be cautious and stay safe, particularly in areas already devestastated from flooding such as the Mohawk Valley and North Country.

“With heavy rain and possible flash flooding expected in parts of the state, I urge all New Yorkers to take extreme caution, including closely monitoring local radio and television for weather alerts and listening to the advice of local officials,” Cuomo said in a press release.

“Many communities have already been hit hard by flooding, and the state is deploying every resource available to help affected areas and residents,” Cuomo said.

The Albany weather service issued a Flash Flood Watch from 8 a.m. on July 1 to 8 p.m. on July 2, when between 1 and 3 inches of rainfall is expected. The alert applies to Albany, Columbia, Dutchess, Fulton, Greene, Hamilton, Herkimer, Montgomery, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, Ulster, Warren, and Washington Counties. Expect thunderstorms, and, according to the press release, in some places rainfall may be up to 5 inches.
