Sheridan illustration student Christina Moors was anticipating to see Shen Yun all week, and she wasn’t disappointed.

“Absolutely fantastic. The colours, the dancing, the singers, it’s wonderful. Very inspiring,” she said.

Ms. Moors attended the show with her grandmother, Sheila Burke, who works in public relations for a global chemical company.

“It was very beautiful,” said Ms. Burke, expressing appreciation for the presentation of Chinese culture depicted by Shen Yun.

She was particularly impressed by the elegance of the Mongolian Bowl Dance, an ethnic dance in which women skillfully and gracefully balance bowls on their heads in a dance of welcome. According to the program book, the performance illustrates the strong yet gentle nature of Mongolian dance.

Shen Yun’s dances are accompanied by an orchestra that blends Eastern and Western instruments in a harmonious fusion, with the Western instruments acting as the foundation and the Chinese instruments leading the melodies.

Talented bel canto performers also take the audience on a journey of hope and renewal.

The Shen Yun Performing Arts New York Company, one of Shen Yun’s three equally large companies, which is visiting Mississauga this year features internationally renowned sopranos Haolan Geng and Pi-Ju Huang, as well as tenor Yuan Qu, who once studied with some of the greatest tenors including Luciano Pavarotti and Carlo Bergonzi.

“It’s beautiful, beautiful classical music, and the singers, the voices are just beautiful,” said Ms. Burke.

She warmly recommended the show to her friends, “Very worthwhile, you have to see it.”
