Pittsburgh Penguins’ center Sid Crosby is finally set to return to the ice Monday against the New York Islanders. The 24-year-old former MVP has been out with concussion-like symptoms since getting hit hard in games last January 1st (against Washington) and 5th (Tampa Bay).
Despite playing just 41 games last year, Crosby led Pittsburgh in goals (32) and points (66). His 25-game scoring streak from November 5 through December 28, totaling 26 goals and 24 assists, was the longest streak in the NHL since Mats Sundin in 1992-93.
The first overall pick of the 2005 NHL Draft, Sid the Kid has accumulated 100-plus points in four of his six seasons in the league, including 120 in 2006-07 to win the NHL’s MVP Award as a 19-year-old.
The Penguins (11-6-3) have 25 points through 20 games this season.
