The Dominique Ansel Bakery, home of the cronut, was shut down today by the Department of Health after a customer filmed a video of a mouse running around behind the counter.
This comes a day after a Manhattan Dunkin' Donuts was closed after a YouTube video showed a rat rummaging through its pastries.
The bakery had opened as usual, but Health Department officials arrived for an inspection, eventually ordering a closure. The Gothamist was sent a statement by the bakery:
“This is such sad news. Due to the video footage, the DOH came with three inspectors today... any hole larger than the tip of a ballpoint pen is considered a violation. We were asked to re-cement the entire basement, which won’t allow us work. We should be reopened on Monday.”
