Hong Kong’s top squash players are currently competing in the Crocodile Hong Kong Squash Championship 2013 at the Hong Kong Squash Centre.
The competition started on Monday June 17 and completes on Saturday June 22.
In Round 2 of the men’s event this evening Wednesday June 19 Dick Lau was beaten by Wong Chi Him in three straight games 11-0, 11-1, 11-2. Meanwhile the top two seeds Max Lee and Leo Au progressed with straight game wins over their opponents.
The men’s Quarter Finals will be played tomorrow evening (Thursday June 20) featuring No. 1 seed, Max Lee against Wong Hon Fung, Yip Taz Fung against Anson Kwong, Wong Chi Him against Tsang Cheuk Yan and No. 2 seed Leo Au will play Yeung Ho Wai.
In the women’s event all of the top four seeds Annie Au, Joey Chan, Lui Tsz Ling and Tong Tsz Wing won their Quarter Final matches tonight Wednesday June 19 in straight games to progress to the Semi-finals to be played on Friday evening June 21. The Semi-final pairings are Au against Ling and Chan verses Wing.
The defending champions are Annie Au and Leo Au.
Annie is currently ranked 14 in the world and Leo is ranked 52. The top ranked Hong Kong men’s player is Max Lee ranked 34.
WSF Men’s World Teams
Meanwhile, the World Squash Federation’s 2013 Men’s World Team Squash Championships played at Mullhouse, France, were completed last Saturday June 15, with England victorious over Egypt 3-1.
Daryl Selby beat Tarek Momen 3-0; Nick Matthew lost to Ramy Ashour 1-3; and James Willstrop beat Karim Darwish 3-1 to win the title.
France picked up third prize, beating Australia 2-0.
