Irina Shayk is known for multiple things--being a model, an acting mother, and Cristiano Ronaldo’s girlfriend--but people will soon take her claim of being an actress seriously after the latest Hercules retelling hits theaters next month.
Turns out Shayk, 28, is the lead female star in the film, which is headlined by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and hits theaters on July 25.
Shayk, who has never really had a serious acting role--she’s been on Sports Illustrated documentaries and appeared occasionally on TV--will play Megara, who according to classical Greek mythology was the eldest daughter of King Creon of Thebes.
Megara is actually Hercules’ wife, and mother to his children. Her father offered her to Hercules (also known as Heracles) after he successfully defended Thebes from the Minyans, a group of people back in that age.
According to some accounts, Hercules later killed his wife when Hera struck him with temporary madness.
John Hurt, Ian Whyte, and Ingrid Bolsø Berdal are among the other actors in the film, which is the second telling of Hercules story to hit theaters this year.
Shayk has been notably absent in Brazil while her husband and his Portugal team struggle during the World Cup.
Shayk has been in New York City doing some modeling gigs instead.
