This Friday, July 9, is the unofficial, annual Cow Appreciation Day celebrated at more than 1300 Chick-fil-A restaurants nationwide.

Participants are encouraged to dress as a cow from head to hoof and visit their local store for a chance to receive a free meal on this special occasion. Customers opting out for a more safe option, can choose to wear a piece of cow spotted attire or accessory and receive a complimentary entree.

The ‘Eat Mor Chickn’ campaign was started in 1995 as a way to encourage people to choose chicken over beef, by using posters, banners, commercials on radio, TV and other marketing. The

A double decker bus is touring New York City with cow-dressed enthusiasts giving out 750 Chick-fil-A sandwiches. The “Eat Mor Chikin” signs held by those aboard represent the bovine holiday.

Children are encouraged to join in the cow costume competition. There will also be a ‘cowstume’ contest via the www.cowappreciationday.com website where participants can upload a photo of themselves and up to nine of their friends dressed in their best cow attire, in a chance to win a Chick-fil-A supply for a year.

The website also includes a sheet of printable cow pieces that can be used by anyone who doesn’t have any cow accessories as costume starter kits. The better the costume, the better the prize.
