Cougar Town season 5 is wrapping up on April 1 on TBS, and it’s unclear whether the series will be renewed or canceled.
After the third season the show moved from ABC to TBS and enjoyed strong cable ratings.
The fourth season became the network’s top original primetime series ever with both total viewers and the 18-49 age bracket.
When it was renewed for a fifth season, head of programming for TBS Michael Wright said: “Cougar Town has been everything we hoped it would be: a smart, big-hearted, laugh-out-loud comedy that shines a bright light on the TBS brand. This season, the brilliant cast and immensely creative production team on Cougar Town have crafted their best episodes yet, and we couldn’t be happier inviting them back for more.”
Courteney Cox, best known for her role on “Friends,” is the star of the show, which follows her character Jules Cobb, a recently divorced woman in her forties facing challenges and rewards, along with her son, former husband, and wine-loving friends.
In season 3, Jules married Grayson Ellis, the owner of Gray’s Pub who lived across the street from Jules and was recently divorced when the series started.
The series started off with around seven million viewers in the first two seasons before dipping toward five million in season 3.
Season 4 averaged 2.8 million viewers with 1.7 million in the 18-49 range.
Season 5 has dipped down to around 1.5 million overall and .70 in the 18-49 range.
Strangely enough, there doesn’t seem to be many hints toward renewal or cancellation of the show, apart from the viewing numbers.
