U.S. officials have linked an outbreak of Hepatitis A in five states to Costco’s Townsend Farms Organic Anti-oxidant Blend of berries, it was reported.
The San Francisco Chronicle reported that Costco recalled the berries, although other reports have suggested otherwise.
The berry mix has been linked to at least 30 cases Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, Arizona, and California, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It says there will likely be more cases on the way.
Around half of the people who were infected were sent to the hospital.
Of the 17 people who were asked about getting hepatitis recently, 11 said they ate the berry mix, according to the Consumerist.
“We do have very good records, we know where the (pomegranate seeds) came from, we’re looking into who the broker is and we’re sourcing it back up the food chain to get to it,” Bill Gaar, a lawyer for Townsend Farms, told The Associated Press.
