The Epoch Times had the opportunity recently to sit down with U.S. Congressman Dana Rohrabacher and to discuss the recent news about organs being harvested from living Falun Gong practitioners in China’s labor camps. Here is a transcript of Congressman Rohrbacher’s remarks.
This case can be investigated either inside or outside, and the truth made known to the American people and the people of the world. This is gruesome and clearly beyond the moral standards of almost every country that I know. It’s time for the civilized world to say “no” to the monsters that are tearing apart people in China and enriching themselves from others’ bodies.
We, as legislators, as statesmen and Americans, must not also become complicit in these crimes by keeping silent. History cares not whether we have inked another trade deal or helped sell another Boeing 747, but history will judge us if we choose to look the other way when faced with truly indescribable human suffering on this scale.
We have a responsibility to have our President express America’s strong wish to have a full investigation of these charges and demand an explanation from Chinese leader Hu Jintao during his upcoming visit and an agreement to allow on-site third-party investigations. I think you will agree this is the least we can do.
On the website for just one transplant center, the Oriental Organ Transplantation Center in Tianjin (www.ootc.net), we could see a graph of their “achievement” shows the number of procedures growing by leaps and bounds after 1999, the year the persecution of Falun Gong officially began.
This may be the grisly reason why there is no waiting list for human organs in PRC.
This kind of moral complicity required for the non-consensual removal and sale of human organs is certainly unique, which is an issue that we cannot ignore.
There are so many people who think of China only as a good place to do business and make money, but they don’t want to recognize those people running China who are involved in monstrous crimes that no civilized person would associate with. Now we ignore so many bad things that they have done, the Chinese Communists expect us to ignore this as well. That doesn’t mean the rest of our country has forgotten these values.
I believe that when a country doesn’t stand for certain moral principles and closes its eyes to oppression, in the end that decision comes back to hurt the country who closes its eyes and chooses not to recognize evil. In that case, China again, the Chinese Communist country is demonstrating evil that deserves condemnation by the entire civilized world.
I think it’s important to the elected people in the United States to speak loudly on behalf of the entire American people to let those suffering in China and across the world know that we are on their side. We are on the side of those people who are being oppressed, not on the side of the brutal dictator who controls them, even though a lot of American businessmen are making money in china.
Many people should go to China, but they should talk to the people who are being oppressed rather than spending their time with the oppressor. Rather than spending their time with the torturer, they should spend time with people being tortured.
I think eventually the American people will reach an understanding of what’s going on in China and there will be a backlash against the Chinese Communist leadership from the United States. Hopefully we then offer much more support to those people like Falun Gong in China who asked only to be able to live their lives in Freedom.
