A Connecticut school says “Hump Day” references from a popular Geico commercial about a camel has gotten out of hand after students started imitating it.
Officials Vernon Center Middle School are now punishing students who make references to “Hump Day.” The phrase was prominently featured in the viral commercial, which shows a camel walking through an office and forcing others to declare that it’s “Hump Day.”
“Everybody’s walking around in the hallways and saying ‘It’s Hump Day’ in that weird voice,” student Brooke Lewis told CBS.
Teachers and others students say that they are making references to “Hump Day” when it isn’t Wednesday.
“Some sixth grade boys have been using the phrase so much it’s becoming disruptive, and the kids say they aren’t just yelling it in the hallways on Wednesdays, it’s everyday,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Mary P. Conway told WFSB.
“OK, that’s getting out of hand,” parent Mick Ruggiero said.. “Just keep it to Wednesdays and we'll be all right.”
Some reports said the school banned the phrase but this is unconfirmed.
“I think it’s all kind of silly, I think there’s bigger things to take care of in middle schools than that. Obviously you don’t want the kids to be disruptive,” Ruggiero told CNN.
