Colt McCoy, the former standout quarterback with the Texas Longhorns, had his No. 12 retired by the University of Texas football team on Wednesday, the Dallas Morning News reports.
Coach Mack Brown announced the news in a press conference and said that an official ceremony will be held before the October 30 game vs. Baylor.
McCoy, currently the third string quarterback with the Cleveland Browns, will become the sixth Longhorn football player to have his jersey retired. He won the 2008 and 2009 Walter Camp National Player of the Year Awards and the 2009 Maxwell Award for best collegiate football player.
“I was just overwhelmed, humbled and psyched when I was told about his,” McCoy said in a statement.
“This is such a tremendous honor, but it’s not about me. It’s about all the great coaches that helped me develop as a player and a man, the tremendous teammates that made my job so much easier and the most supportive family anyone could ask for.”
The previous Longhorn football player to have his jersey retired was Vince Young, whose 10 was retired by the University of Texas in 2008.
