The town of Green Mountain Falls are left without police, after the chief announced his resignation on April 14, local media reported.

The resignation came shortly after the swearing in of a new town mayor on April 12.

“I don’t know why,” Mayor Jane Newberry told KRDO. “That was discussed in an executive session last Thursday before I was sworn in.”

Marshal Timothy Bradley resigned first, followed by three volunteer reserve officers, according to KRDO. Newberry, who once served on the board as a trustee for ten years, did not see it coming.

“He had a job. His job was not going away. We had promised him that,” Newberry said.

Local station FOX21 went to the police station and confirmed that everyone had in fact left.

“Lights out and not a soul in sight,” the station wrote.

Since the town are left without local police, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office will patrol the area until Newberry starts hiring new officers.

“I have every confidence in El Paso County Sheriff’s Office. I always have and there’s no reason anybody needs to worry. We are a small community and it’s one of our advantages is we all look out for each other.” Newberry told FOX21.

Nothing will change according to the sheriff’s office. They will still do their normal amount of patrolling—unless the town needs more.

Green Mountain Falls has roughly 700 people, but in the summer that number increases to about 1,200.
