The annual Country Music Television (CMT) Awards celebrated its 57th year on Wednesday June 4th, 2014, as country music stars like Luke Bryan, Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood, and Florida Georgia Line took to the stage to perform during the biggest night of country music. Solo host of the night, Kristen Bell, declared the awards show to be a “ladies night,” saying that too many artists emerging into the country music scene have been male.
In the opening act of the awards show, the producers managed to slip in a parody of the Jay-Z/Solange elevator incident, where Luke Bryan and the Florida Georgia Line duo fight it out in the elevator that Bell awaits to take up to the stage just before the show begins.
The first stage act was an unexpected teaming of Luke Bryan, Florida Georgia Line, and pop singer John Legend who sang and danced along to “Talk Dirty,” as well as “This is How We Roll.”
Other powerful duets and comedy pieces slipped into the ceremony.
Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood stepped onto the stage to perform an electric duet of “Something Bad,” which was dubbed as the highlight of the show. Other performers of the night included Keith Urban, Brantley Gilbert, Jennifer Nettles, Hunter Hayes, Blake Shelton, and Lady Antebellum who performed “Bartender.”
