The Los Angeles Clippers did not “retire” a “Donald Sterling jersey” with No. 1, as it’s satire from the preeminent satirical website. 

The Onion published a Photoshopped image of the jersey, which reads “---hole).”

Some people apparently believed the image, and commented on it as if it were real.

According to its disclaimer, The Onion is a satire publication.

“The Onion is a satirical weekly publication published 52 times a year on Thursdays,” the disclaimer reads. It adds: “The Onion uses invented names in all its stories, except in cases where public figures are being satirized. Any other use of real names is accidental and coincidental.”

Sterling received a lifetime ban from the NBA and a $2.5 million fine. He could also be forced to sell his franchise, which he bought three decades ago.

Sterling allegedly made racist comments to his girlfriend, which were then published on TMZ over the weekend.

Over the weekend, a meme showing the Clippers jersey morphed into a Ku Klux Klan robe also went viral:
