Clinton’s first tweet: “Excited to join @ChelseaClinton and my good friend @StephenAtHome on Twitter!”

Clinton previously had a semi-spoof account made by comedian Stephen Colbert while Clinton and Colbert talked on Colbert’s comedy central show.

Clinton’s first account, @PrezBillyJeff, had on its profile “Stephen Colbert is my BFF.”

Colbert tweeted that people should follow Clinton’s account. “I believe that as ex-president, everything he tweets carries the weight of law.”

Now that account appears to have been merged with @billclinton, with Clinton’s first official tweet on April 25  saying he’s excited to join his daughter and Colbert on Twitter.

In the afternoon, Clinton tweeted a picture of himself, former presidents George W. Bush, George H. W. Bush, Jimmy Carter, and current President Barack Obama at the opening of a center honoring W. Bush.

“Congratulations George and Laura on the opening of @TheBushCenter,” Clinton wrote. “Proud Hilary and I could be here.”
