Chuck Muncie dies: A reporter with ESPN said via Twitter that Chuck Muncie, former San Diego Chargers and New Orleans Saints running back, passed away from a heart attack.

Muncie was an all-pro running back who played in the Pro Bowl three times. He was born in 1953.

After trouble with cocaine, including an almost one-year suspension, Muncie’s career ended, but he later learned from his mistakes and would be there for athletes at his alma mater, University of California.

“Whenever we call, he makes himself available,” Dr. Bill Coysh said. “That’s what’s incredible about him. This is not a paid position. He does it because that’s how he is.”
