Former CNN international correspondent Christiane Amanpour has officially debuted as show host of nearly 20-year-old ABC talk show “This Week” earlier on Monday.
It was announced in March that Christiane Amanpour will be positioned as the replacement for former host George Stephanopoulos.
“Christiane will bring the international and the domestic together, in the interviews she does and in the roundtable over which she presides,” ABC News head David Westin said. “Our audience has come to us for years to see differing points of views expressed in intelligent and compelling ways; now the different points of view will be expanded beyond partisan politics alone.”
The new host’s first episode at the roundtable was with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
“Having witnessed firsthand the global challenges and opportunities that America faces every day, I’m also eager to open a window on the world and cut through those classified issues that we all confront,” she said when opening the show, according to Zap 2 It.
Born to an Iranian father and a British mother, Arnanpour had an international background made for TV. She spent 11 years in Iran before transferring to a women’s boarding school in England, and finished her undergraduate studies at the University of Rhode Island.
During the past 27 years working for CNN, the 52-year-old reported a long list of significant events, including the fall of Communism in Eastern Europe, the Gulf War, and Philharmonic’s first trip to North Korea, according to Time.
