Following the deadly shootings in a Batman opening in Colorado’s Aurora early Friday, Batman actor Christian Bale and his wife, Sibi Blazic, visited survivors in local hospitals.
The 38-year-old star of the Batman trilogy and “The Fighter” paid an impromptu visit to the survivors after 12 were shot dead while dozens others were wounded, according to Access Hollywood. Survivor Carey Rottman posted two photos of Bale and himself on his Facebook page. After his hospital visit, Bale and Blazic went ahead to pay tribute at a makeshift memorial.
Bale’s trip came after the creation of several Facebook campaigns urging Bale to visit the city. “Dear Christian Bale, Please visit the injured children & Families from the movie massacre as BATMAN you have the power to be a hero right now, not a movie hero, a real flesh and blood hero!?Sincerely, Everyone,” one of the posts in the campaign read.
While Bale’s visit represented only himself, Warner Bros Pictures held back the opening weekend’s earnings to pay respect to the victims. “We extend our sincere sympathies to the families and loved ones of the victims at this tragic time,” the studio posted on Twitter.
President Barack Obama has also made hospital visits to some of the survivors.
