Chris Christie spider kill: New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie killed a small spider last week when it walked across his desk as his daughter was touring his office with her fourth-grade class.

He posted a video of him killing the spider, which drew an applause from the class. “Where is he? There is he,” Christie said, before he crushed the spider.

“That’s also another fun part of being Governor. Any bugs that are on your desk, you’re allowed to kill them and not get in trouble,” Christie said in the video.

The spider-squashing incident drew condemnation from PETA.

“Some people put the spider outside, but spiders are often scary to people, and that can prevent them from pondering their worth,” PETA said, according to CNN.

It added that like Christie, many people squash spiders “without thinking.”

After the kill, Christie quipped on Twitter: “Earlier today I saved a few school children from a spider.”
