Chinese Peasants Are Forced to Move into Urban Housing, Losing Their Homes, Land and Livelihoods

Updated:
The Chinese communist regime recently launched a new urbanization program forcing peasants to leave the countryside and move into government-designated housing.
Despite the CCP virus pandemic, authorities in Shandong Province continued to push their urbanization program. Peasants who resisted were driven off their land and have become homeless.
Mr. Li is a resident of Linyi City, Shandong Province. He lives in the city while his parents live in the countryside. Li told The Epoch Times that starting from October of last year, authorities demanded that all villagers move to the city, into designated housing. Villagers firmly refused because the compensation for giving up their homes and land was very low.
Since late March, local authorities have harassed Li’s parents every day, destroying their farmland and crops, shutting off power, setting off fireworks right in front of their house, and smashing their windows. The elderly couple decided to go to Linyi to seek help from their son. Two days after they left, authorities tore down their house without their consent.
