Chinese farmer Sun Jifa lost both his hands in a freak accident when a fishing explosive went off prematurely in his home nine years ago.
Jifa then spent eight years building his own bionic arms, being unable to afford buying already-made prosthetic arms.
His bionic arms were built from scratch and are said to be more flexible than normal replacement arms.
“Mr. Sun’s artificial hand feels good to me,” said a customer, Li Yanzhong. “When I go home, it will help me a lot with operating work machinery. Normal prosthetic arms only have a superficial function when operating machinery. They don’t have much strength. But this artificial hand will be very useful in using machines and doing other work.”
Jifa has sold around 1,000 of the limbs for about $490 each.
