On Aug. 5, a group of Chinese people, mostly young students, returned to China from Thailand and had to go through a 14-day quarantine in a hotel in Yunnan Province. However, local authorities demanded that they turn in their passports and other ID documents before the quarantine. In addition, the quarantine fee is outrageously high. The returnees tried to resist, but the police arrived at the hotel to threaten them.
Police officer:
“For those of you who refuse to check into the hotel room within the next 30 minutes, we will follow legal procedures and subject you to detention or other types of punishment after the quarantine period. In addition, we will report you to your respective schools or work units, as well as your local police station. As you know, it will certainly have an impact on your future education and career opportunities.”
If you have any questions or demands, check in the hotel first, and resolve your issues afterwards. This is a mandatory quarantine that you must go through. I hope you have a clear understanding of your current situation.
