A 27-year-old Chicago woman was fatally shot outside of a 7-Eleven while socially distancing amid the pandemic, her family said.
“She was awesome,” her father, Jeffrey Baute, told the Tribune. “She was vibrant and happy. Full of life, independent and stubborn. She wanted to make people happy and to live life and to be happy.”
He said Baute was shot and killed while her friend locked up his bike. She was waiting in a social-distancing line outside the 7-Eleven, according to the report.
“He thought she tripped,” Jeffrey Baute told the newspaper. “He rolled her over, and she was bleeding out of her mouth.”
The friend said that paramedics were called to the scene. They tried to resuscitate her and took her to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead sometime later, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.
Authorities said someone fired eight rounds several blocks away from where she was standing. It’s not clear if the two incidents are connected, however.
“I know it’s going to hit me,’’ her father said. “That the sweetest, kindest, nicest daughter that you could have. ... I’m going to realize that she’s gone.’’
