At least eight people were killed and another 43 people were injured in shootings across Chicago over the weekend.
The shootings spanned from late Friday, Sept. 23, to early Monday, Sept. 26. One of the fatal shootings took place in downtown Chicago near Millennium Park at around 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Peter Fabbri, 54, was walking with two others when he got into an argument with a man, who pulled out a gun and shot him in the head. He was pronounced dead at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, at 5:53 p.m. Sunday, police said, according to ABC7.
The weekend’s most recent homicide took place on Sunday morning at 4:30 a.m., when a 28-year-old man was fatally shot in the South Side Calumet Heights neighborhood. He was pronounced dead about a half and hour later at Trinity Hospital, police said.
At 7:25 p.m. on Saturday, a 22-year-old man was shot and killed in the Englewood neighborhood. He was looking at a vehicle when gunfire erupted and he was hit several times, police said. The unnamed man was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
On Saturday, a man was shot and killed in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side. In the 2:30 a.m. incident, officers responded to a call of a person down and found the 37-year-old man dead. His name has not yet been released, according to officials.
At 2 a.m. on Saturday a man was shot and killed and a woman hurt in Gage Park on the Southwest Side. A vehicle pulled up to the two and someone inside got out and opened fire, hitting 20-year-old Jose Vizcarra in the head and injuring the woman’s foot. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
On Friday night, a 19-year-old man, identified as Izael McKenzie, was shot and killed in the Englewood neighborhood, according to Fox32. Another 20-year-old man was critically wounded. In the incident, a gunman walked up to the two and opened fire.
Two more people were killed and dozens more were wounded over the weekend.
According to local media website DNAInfo, at least 535 people have been murdered in Chicago, and it appears to be far outpacing previous years.
According to the Chicago Tribune’s official tally, more than 3,200 people have been shot in the city so far in 2016. In all of 2015, 2,988 people were shot.
