“Chewbacca Mom” Candace Payne is the newest viral sensation after uploading a video of herself keeling in laughter while wearing the Star Wars mask broke the internet. It has landed her an interview with “Good Morning America” and an upcoming appearance on “The Late Late Show With James Corden.” But this isn’t the first taste of Hollywood for Payne.
“I auditioned for ‘The Voice’,” she revealed in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “I didn’t get a callback after that. [I’ve been singing] my whole life! I sing and play guitar and write music...I’ve got some gifts and talents I would love to use.”
For now the mother of two is known as woman behind the most-viewed Facebook Live video ever. Payne captured the world’s attention when she gleefully revealed her birthday purchase to herself—a Chewbacca mask—from Kohl’s.
“I'd like to say that I bought this for my son, who would really, really want it,” the 37-year-old said in the video. “He'll probably take it from me. However, this is mine. When it’s said and done, at the end of the day, this is mine that I bought and I’m going to keep it for my own.”
Once she wears the mask, Payne cannot contain her excitement and laughter—emotions viewers were appreciative of.
“So much better than a video where someone is TRYING to be funny, and we just giggle a little. This right here…pure inner joy…radiating from within!,” wrote a Facebook user. Another commenter wrote, “I’m not sure what I love more…the super cool amazing mask or the level of your joy!!!”
Payne is happy to bring joy to the world.
“I think the world, as a whole, is in need of a good laugh. I think we are in need of somebody to lift our spirits to not take ourselves so seriously, and maybe break some cynicism, worldwide,” said Payne on “Good Morning America.”
The mask is currently out of stock at Kohl’s, Target, Walmart, and Toys R Us.
