CULVER CITY, California—With a $1 million dollar grand prize on the line to the winner’s favorite charity, tension is building in the lead-up to the Jeopardy! Million Dollar Celebrity Invitational Tournament.

“This is my third appearance [on the Celebrity Jeopardy Tournament]. I’m as nervous now as I was the very first time” said actor and comedian Cheech Marin in a recent interview with The Epoch Times.

“Yeah, this is the most nervous you can be in show business. You can look like such an idiot! Professionally I am supposed to look like an idiot so that’s OK, but this is a knee knocker here!”

Marin participates in Celebrity Jeopardy Tournament to raise money for The Hispanic Scholarship Fund, a nonprofit for which he sits on the board of directors.

Marin is among a short list of famous personalities to advance to this year’s semi-final round, which will take place on Monday, May 3, Tuesday, May 4, and Wednesday, May 5, with the finals airing on Thursday, May 6 and Friday, May 7.

With a 26-year-long history, Jeopardy is one of Americas favorite game shows. It consistently draws a huge audience, with nearly 9 million people tuning in daily. The show has been inducted into the Guinness Book of World Records for the most awards won by a TV game show, and has garnered 28 Emmy Awards in total. The series is rated as the No. 1 quiz show in syndication.

After a series of monthly quarterfinal matches that began in September, 2009 the field has been narrowed down from 27 celebrities to 9. The following are the remaining celebrities and their charity:

Jane Curtin (U.S. Fund for UNICEF)
Neil Patrick Harris (Food on Foot)
Jane Kaczmarek (Clothes Off Our Back)
Cheech Marin (Hispanic Scholarship Fund)
Michael McKean (International Myeloma Foundation)
Isaac Mizrahi (Good Shepherd Services)
Pat Sajak (Vietnam Veterans of America)
Charles Shaughnessy (1736 Family Crisis Center)
Harry Shearer (Common Ground Relief)
