Chayanne’s mother Irma Luz Arce has died after a battle with cancer and several days in the hospital.
Arce, 75, died around 6 p.m. at the Menonita de Caguas Hospital in Puerto Rico on Thursday night, reported El Nuevo Dia.
“In the name of my family and myself I would like to inform you that my mother Irma Luz has left with God,” the singer said in a statement.
“She had been fronting a long and delicate situation but peace was on her side, it was always with her. As you can understand, it is a great and painful loss and we ask you kindly to please respect this moment that our family is going through. We ask for your prayers from afar as a demonstration of support and our eternal gratitude to Menonita de Caguas Hospital.”
The funeral is planned for Saturday at 10 a.m. local time at the La Paz De Cristo in San Lorenzo.
Chayanne also expressed grief over the death of writer Gabriel Garcia Marquez, saying that the writer “left a great legacy for history.”
