CCTV footage of the terrorist attack at Istanbul’s Ataturk Airport that has left dozens dead shows people fleeing the suicide bombers that targeted the international terminal.
The footage shows travelers running following an explosion, as a security officer yells at them to run. Later in the video, people are seen huddled behind a shop.
Other CCTV videos show the moment the explosions took place, with people dropping to the ground. Another video shows what appears to be one of the suicide bombers being shot by a police officer before falling the ground and later detonating his explosive vest.
Flights resumed at Istanbul’s Ataturk Airport on Wednesday—just hours after the terrorist attack killed 41 people and injured 239 others on Tuesday night, Turkey’s prime minister said.
The Istanbul regional governor’s office confirmed the death toll on Wednesday morning, said the state-run Anadolou News Agency.
Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said that the airport was opened for incoming and outgoing flights by 2:20 a.m. on Wednesday.
Yildirim said three suicide bombers were killed in the attack, suggesting that the Islamic State terrorist group was responsible.
Passengers were allowed off the planes after the airport’s facilities were reopened. Efforts are underway to remove debris and replace the damaged equipment, the news agency reported.
“We expect that a resolute stance against terrorist organizations should be adopted by the world and especially Western countries with their parliament, media, and non-governmental organizations,” President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in a statement published by Anadolou.
“Turkey will continue its fight against all terrorist organizations at all costs until the end of terrorism,” Erdogan said.
Turkey has been hit hard by terrorist attacks in the past year, with more than 250 people killed in major bombings. The main culprits of the attacks are ISIS and extremists linked to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party, known as the PKK, according to the Hurriyet Daily News.
