Penske Racing’s Helio Castroneves and Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter-Reay were the fastest drivers of the first two days of IndyCar testing at Florida’s Sebring International Raceway.
Hunter-Reay was fastest on Monday, while Castroneves topped the timesheets Tuesday with a lap of 52.39 at 114.76 mph around the 1.67 mile, 11-turn Sebring test circuit. Both cars are powered by Chevrolet engines.
Simon Pagenaud in the Sam Schmidt Honda and Will Power and Ryan Briscoe in their Penske Chevrolets rounded out the top five, giving Penske an overwhelming advantage
Coyne racing’s Justin Wilson was the next quickest Honda-powered car in sixth, followed by the Andretti Chevys of James Hinchcliffe and Marco Andretti. James Jakes finished ninth in his Coyne Honda, and HVM’s Simona de Silvestro was last in the lone Lotus-powered entry.
Only half the field was represented at the first two test days. The rest, including the dominant Target Ganassi Chevrolets, will test on Thursday and Friday.
Tickets for the test are available at the gate for $10.
