On Tuesday, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger declared a state of emergency in several California counties after the powerful storms triggered hailstorms, floods, mudslides, and evacuations.
The state of emergency includes Kern, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Luis Obispo, and Tulare counties, according to Los Angeles Times.
On Wednesday, the storm became more severe as the system from the Gulf of Alaska collided with subtropical moisture from the Western Pacific Ocean.
