Bruno Mars silenced the minds of skeptics at the Super Bowl XLVIII Halftime show yesterday that thought he didn’t wield enough star power to perform for millions of people.
As the children’s choir sang “Billionaire,” the recent Grammy award winner appeared on stage opening up with a drum solo.
He then performed his mega-hit “Locked Out of Heaven” with his backup band. The band, like Mars, was decked in gold clothing. Mars sang “Treasure” and “Runaway Baby” before The Red Hot Chili Peppers appeared to sing “Give It Away.”
Although they were a delight to see, it would have been fitting to hear them perform two more songs since they were later added to the Halftime show to give Bruno Mars a boost. After giving the spotlight back to Mars, he closed his set with “Just The Way You Are.”
As someone who saw the performance on television, I was lucky enough to have heard and seen the fireworks from MetLife stadium from my window by the George Washington Bridge. When Bruno Mars received a round of applause, the red fireworks paved way to white smoke.
After yesterday’s halftime show, it is evident that the NFL will continue to have faith in having younger, fresher artists perform rather than seasoned, over-the-top musicians to bring in more viewers. In Bruno’s case, he was the highlight of the entire night, considering the Denver Broncos suffered a devastating loss 43-8.
