Body in Tidal Basin found: The body of a man was discovered in Tidal Basin, a reservoir that links the Potomac River and the Washington Channel, on Wednesday morning. It was the second time that a body was found in the area in under a week.
The Washington Post reported that the body was found near the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial just after 1 a.m.
Police did not identify the body, only saying it was a man. The cause of death has yet to be determined, and police have not ruled out foul play or a suicide.
Officials told ABC 7 News that they believe the body has been in the water for several days.
The family of an Illinois man who disappeared on March 31 is coming to Washington D.C. to determine if the body belonged to him, according to NBC Washington.
And on Saturday, a man’s body was found in the Potomac River south of the Lincoln Memorial close to Tidal Basin, according to the Post. Police are investigating whether the two incidents are connected.
The body discovered Saturday was identified as Robert Groshan, 63, of Northwest D.C., according to NBC. It was found by fisherman near a path used by people to view cherry blossoms.
