Body in hospital linens: Police in Minnesota are looking into a case involving the discovery of a stillborn infant’s body in linens that came from a hospital in St. Paul.

The body of the full-term infant fell from a bed sheet on Tuesday in the town of Red Wing at an industrial laundry facility, reported the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

Hospital workers removed the body and the linens from Crothall Laundry before officers arrived on the scene. Officials said that the lines were delivered to the company no more than two days earlier.

The baby came from Regions Hospital in St. Paul, according to other reports.

KARE-11 television reported that the baby had a tag on its ankle and was wearing a diaper. The hospital said they mishandled the body of the stillborn baby.

Hospital workers said they have been working to notify the family of the child.

“This was a terrible mistake, and we are deeply sorry,” said Chris Boese, the head nursing officer at Regions Hospital, according to KARE. “We have processes in place that should have prevented this but did not. We are working to identify the gap in our system, and to make sure this does not happen again.”

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
