Boardwalk Empire season 5 is set to wrap up on Sunday and fans are wondering whether or not there will be a season 6.
The hit HBO show will not go on no matter what--season 5 was declared the final season some time ago.
Show creator Terence Winter says that he’s confident fans will enjoy the series finale.
“It’s like getting in a rocket ship and heading to the moon: It’s a long, long journey, and you’ve got to land on one particular spot. When we finish, we'll have done 56 hours of this; the finale is the culmination,” he told Rolling Stone.
“The stakes are high, and we’ve been conscious of that as we’ve plotted out the final year, and the finale. We’re confident about it.”
He also noted that he’s aware many fans wanted the show to get more seasons.
“The first rule of show business is get off the stage while people still want more,” he said. “You tell the story you want to tell, and when it’s done, you’re done.”
Fans of the show can take heart in the news that many of the main stars can be seen in other gigs soon.
Steve Buscemi may have his AOL Web series Park Bench return for a season 2, although he has no other roles on his plate at present.
Stephen Graham heads back to the United Kingdom for the miniseries “This is England ‘90.” He’ll also reprise his role as Scrum in Pirates of the Caribbean 5 in 2017.
Vincent Piazza will play a Mafia member in The Wannabe, a show scheduled to premiere later this year.
Next year he’s slated to star with Mireille Enos in the film You Were Never Here.
Gretchen Mol will star with Kristen Stewart and Glenn Close in the film Anesthesia next year, while fans can see her in True Story later this year along with Jonah Hill and James Franco.
She’s also in the Broadway drama Disgraced.
Michael Williams will star in the HBO miniseries Crime and also star in the network’s biopic Bessie.
He’s also in a number of films that will come out in the coming years, including Kill the Messenger
