Black Swan Racing is shutting down its P2 entry in the American Le Mans Series, crippled by the financial failure of Lola Cars International Limited, Speed.com’s John Dagys reports.
Black Swan is led by owner/driver Tim Pappas, who won two consecutive titles in GTC before moving up to P2 for the 2012 season. Accident damage sustained at Long Beach left his team unable to rebuild their 2011 Lola B11/80 Honda. Plans to upgrade the car to 2012 specs fell through when Lola went into receivership and cut off customer support.
“The car was far from being perfect,” Pappas told Speed.com. “We had a tremendous amount of support from Honda on that front, but we really needed the manufacturer [Lola] to step up.
“All of these changes essentially mean that if you own one of these cars, you’re pretty much on your own for development. Until somebody steps up and steps into the shoes of Lola or a reorganization is completed, that’s not a good place to be.”
Dagys reports that there is an outside chance that the team might return later in the season.
