Americans who feel they’re better off now than in 2016 probably should not vote for him, Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden said this week.
A majority of respondents to a Gallup survey conducted last month said they were better off now when compared to 2016.
“Why should people who feel that they’re better off today under a Trump administration vote for you?” WKRC-TV reporter Kyle Inskeep asked Biden on Monday in Ohio.
“They think—54 percent of the American people believe they’re better off economically today than they were under our administration? Well, their memory is not very good, quite frankly,” Biden said.
“And in addition to that, we have a president who doesn’t share the values of most Americans. He’s not very honest with people. He’s flouting the conventions relative to public safety in terms of even not wearing a mask, a guy who has been a superspreader. But look, whatever they believe they should go out and vote. People should vote. Period.”
In response to Biden’s comments, a Trump campaign spokeswoman told The Epoch Times that “Joe Biden is right.”
“If you want lower taxes, better trade deals, greater protection of your individual liberties, energy independence for America, and secure borders, then you shouldn’t vote for him,” Courtney Parella, deputy national press secretary for the campaign, said via email.
The last time the question was asked, in 2012, found just 45 percent of respondents saying they were better off.
Trump championed the findings, writing in a tweet that the results were “pretty amazing!”
Biden has campaigned on the perceived failings of Trump, including accusations that the economy is not doing well because of Trump’s policies.
In Ohio this week, the Democrat told a crowd that his Build Back Better plan would create 18.6 million jobs in four years and generate economic growth.
“It starts with a pretty basic idea. The federal government every year spent $600 billion just making sure that we have ships and planes, cars, trains, all the things the government lets contracts for,” Biden said in Toledo.
“Well, I promise you this. Every single product, every single contract let will be only let to a company or a firm that makes it in America from beginning to end. Not a joke. It’s going to be used to buy American products, support American jobs.”
