Here are the top 5 moments from Sunday night’s MTV Video Music Awards which aired on August 24, 2014.

5. Katy Perry who played the imitation game, as requested by her idol Britney Spears. After Perry saw the imitation Spears did of Woody Woodpecker on her Twitter page, Perry commented that it’s the best thing she’s seen all day. Spears then replied with a dare to also post a video of Perry imitating someone, so Perry took it to a whole different level and came dressed in a jean gown, a la Spears circa 2001.

4. The brief (27 seconds) photo slideshow of Robin Williams in memory of the late actor was criticized by some but appreciated by others. The slideshow was played to a soundtrack by Coldplay “A Sky Full of Stars.”

3. The fact that Casper Smart said on the red carpet that he’s still “good friends” with Jennifer Lopez. The two were then chatting during the awards ceremony. After the show they both went to Mastro’s Steakhouse in Beverly Hills, but left separately.

2. The mystery of Solange Knowles leaving the show prematurely also caught the media’s attention. Beyoncé’s sister arrived alone and walked the red carpet but was not seen during the telecast. US Weekly reported that she did attend the awards show but only for an hour, which means she might have missed Beyoncé’s 17 minutes performance.

1. Beyoncé’s entire studio CD performance, then her husband’s, Jay Z’s, presentation speech while holding their daughter Blue Ivy Carter, and then the little girl clapping her hands saying “Go Mommy!” was just what her fans have been waiting for. An adorable family moment as Beyoncé seemed to be starting to cry.
