The Bates Motel season 2 is wrapping up with the season finale scheduled for next week, making this a crucial build-up episode.

A preview for the episode shows Norma arriving home to find her son missing after episode 8 had him getting knocked out and kidnapped in his own home by an unfamiliar looking man.

The episode it titled “The Box.”

An official description from the network says: “Norma is desperate to connect with Norman; Dylan must decide if he should risk his life to save a loved one; Romero hopes a former colleague can help him determine Norman’s involvement in a crime.”

The description has also come out for the finale:

“A tragic event from the past haunts Norman; Norma tries to prevent Norman from making a terrible mistake; Romero and Dylan find a way to end the drug war; Emma makes a decision about her future.”

Executive producer Carlton Cuse told reporters on a conference call that the finale “moves the overall narrative a big step forward,” and that viewers will “find out more about Norman’s real culpability in the Miss Watson case.”

“There are some bad things that loom ahead for Norma and Norman, but I think it would actually rob the audience of the journey to be too specific about how we’re going to play [the story ahead],” he said, according to CarterMatt.

Freddie Highmore (Norman) added that the other characters will soon have to face whether or not they want to continue to support his actions.

Bates Motel has already been renewed for a season 3,
